AI and
Machine Learning

AI and Machine Learning add unique challenges to safety-compliant engineering.  How do you assign ASIL to complex libraries, silicon components like NGUs and GPUs, that were never designed for safety?  While the new standards provide key guidance, they require experienced interpretation to apply on real-world projects.  We have been working with Automotive ML applications since 2015 on a variety of software and silicon projects.  We can help interpret these standards!

Functional Safety Training for AI and ML

ISO 26262, ISO PAS 8800, and SOTIF work together to assess and mitigate risks associated with today's artificial intelligence and machine learning hardware, software, and silicon.  We offer the following trainings in this area:

  • 1 Day course, onsite or online, English

  • Full Coverage of ISO PAS 8800, SOTIF

  • Understand the connections between these standards and ISO 26262

  • Hands on exercises to develop requirements,  architectures, and assess risks

  • Software and Silicon solutions are discussed.  Training can be focused on the domain upon request.

Architecture Analysis

We take a systematic approach to review systems, hardware, and software architectures for use in safety-related applications.  We work with your architects in a 2 or 3 day workshop format and use the following methods to identify risk in your architecture - risks that impede a companies ability to meet safety goals and derived safety requirements:

  • Fault Tree Analysis

  • Dependent Failure Analysis

  • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis

  • Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis

  • SOTIF and STPA Analysis

While we work with most of the industry standard tools, we can also provide templates and methodologies if none exist.  Architecture weaknesses are then categorized by risk and action plans are created to address risks.

Expert Guidance

Machine learning libraries bring unique challenges to safety engineering. We bring seasoned experts to help teams that already work on safety-related systems, hardware, software, or silicon but need additional guidance and practical interpretation and application of the standards in their specific project context.  These bespoke engagements provide the exact support needed for a defined scope of work
